PSP

Just flashed my PSP to 5.00 because it can't play new games due to the very old firmware I had.

After searching Internet, as usual, I finally decided to flash the gadget.

So, my initial firmware is 3.52 M33-2. According to the Internet, some said you need at least 3.52 M33-4 in order to update to 5.00, some said, you need at least 4.01. So, I decided using the longer way, update one by one.

First step, update to 3.52 M33-4. This is relatively easy, just copy the UPDATE folder from the update file to PSP's memory stick, and put under the folder /psp/game150. Before you start flashing, please take note that

1. Make sure you battery is fully charged or at least 70% full.
2. Make sure the unit is power up from power supply.

Then run the update file from PSP and follow the instruction.

So, now the gadget is equipped with 3.52 M33-4. The next step is update to newer firmware, which is 4.01. There is two files required here, the original 4.01 firmware and custom 4.01 M33 firmware. Again put the UPDATE folder from the custom firmware to PSP's memory stick under the folder /psp/game and put the original firmware 401.PBP in the /psp/game/UPDATE folder.

Before start the update process, make sure the PSP kernel is revert to 3.52. How to do that?

Power off the PSP by pressing the power button for about 10 second. Then press R while on the power back. It will bring you to the recovery mode. Under configuration -> Game folder homebrew, set it to 3.52. Then exit recovery mode.

Ok, now run the update file and cross your fingers and pray. Follow the screen instruction and it might take about 5 minutes to complete.

If you managed to see the welcome screen, congratulation, you are safe. Else, either you can start searching the Internet for the firmware rescue method OR go to shop and get a new one with latest firmware :p

The process nearly scare me to die because something wrong with my memory stick and the machine refused to start. After change to the second memory stick, finally, the welcome screen come out -.-|||

Then update the firmware to 4.01 M33-2. Also an easy step, just copy the UPDATE folder to /psp/game/ and run the update.

The next step is update to firmware 5.00. Again two files need to be downloaded; original 5.00 firmware and custom firmware 5.00 M33. The flow still same, copy the UPDATE folder to /psp/game and copy 500.PBP to the update folder, /psp/game/UPDATE. Again, make sure the kernel is revert to 4.01 before you start flashing. Cross your fingers and start praying. If you lucky to see the welcome screen, then congratulation again.

The last step is update to 5.00 M33-6. Copy UPDATE folder to /psp/game and run the update.

So far these work with the FAT PSP1000 and the slim PSP2000. So far still no best solution for PSP3000 and PSP GO. Hope those genius out there can figure it out soon.

I'm not a gamer, my hands are too dumb to play action games. But I'm puzzle lover. So far what are the best puzzle games?

1. Lode runner, my favorite.
2. Exit from Ubisoft
3. Frantix
4. PQ (Practical Intelligence Quotient)
5. Echochrome and Echoshift

Ok, game time ^^
